Finance Manager

This is work of an accounting and administrative nature. An incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for performing accounting functions pertinent to the preparation of the financial statements, with a specific focus on project accounting for renovation projects as well as special projects as assigned by the Controller. It also includes oversight and review of the full cycle of Accounts Payable activities, the reconciliation of statements and analytical duties. This position reports to the Divisional Controller.

Position Overview

• Perform accounting functions pertinent to the preparation of financial statements including all adjusting journal entries, reconciliation of all sub-accounts, and assisting with any required reporting needs of ownership
• Lead accounting team, providing leadership and guidance towards ongoing efficiencies
• Assist in the hiring, supervision, and mentoring of Accounts Payable staff alongside the Divisional Controller
• Review coding, invoice approval limits, weekly ETF and cheque runs as well as all work that is completed by AP staff
• Assists in the preparation of the Midwest year-end file and the Trust files for submission to the Auditors and Real Estate Board
• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget files and presentation packages
• Finance representative to work with MRI support and provide back up for Property Analyst
• Oversees all WCB clearance letters and Insurance certificates are maintained/updated before releasing payments to trades
• Maintain the vendor database in both our customized property management software (MRI) and in our direct deposit system (RBC APLink)
• Analytical work on cyclical and operating costs as required by the Controller
• Produce monthly reporting on project and building renovations including per unit costing, ROI, GST
• Provide a wide variety of accounting support for accounting staff, Property Managers and other personnel
• Assist in the training of site and office staff in accounting procedures and property management application and trouble-shooting in problem areas
• Support accounting department and staff by serving as back-up during busy periods
• Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner
• Assists in special assignments as requested by Divisional Controller on an “as needed basis”
• Other projects and activities as required

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, practices, and methods
• Experience with ERP systems and conversions
• Ability to use a computer and intermediate to advanced business software including spreadsheet applications and word processing
• Ability to quickly grasp the customized property management system being used
• Ability to provide and express information in a clear, concise manner, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, trades, and members of the general public

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• At least five years relative experience in an accounting environment
• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or business administration as well as Accounting designation or in final stages of designation
