Becoming a Minimalist

Embracing minimalist lifestyle may seem impossible when you’re standing in the middle of your apartment, looking at all your belongings and thinking, “there is no way I can get rid of all this stuff!”. Whether you find yourself to be a bit of a hoarder, or just sentimental when it comes to your possessions, we can guarantee with the correct steps, preparation and dedication, living the minimalist lifestyle is possible.

Here are a few ways that will help you adopt minimalism for a healthier body, mind, and home.

1. Make a list of all the things you don’t need.

“Do I really need it?” Take note of unnecessary items. If you haven’t used it for some time, do you think you’ll use it sometime during the following year? Chances are slim. If the answer is no, it’s time to let it go!

2. Measure the true value.

It’s hard to forget the emotions and memories you’ve attached to certain objects and that’s completely understandable. Take the time to seriously analyze the value this object gives you. Could it provide value somewhere else? Or even for someone else? Realizing that these are just objects and the memories remain within will help you to part with an item.

3. Clutter-free your home and life.

Decluttering your home isn’t the only benefit to living as a minimalist. Do you really need 4 pairs of the same jeans? Are there any other activities, spending habits, materialistic values that you have that you can reconsider? Finding your own personal freedom cannot be defined by your possessions.

4. “One in, one out” rule.

Keep in mind when you’re out shopping, that when you buy something new, something old should go too. Keep the clutter down and the accumulation of objects down to a minimum to help you continue your minimalist journey.

Do your research when adopting the minimalist life. Though the lifestyle may not be for everyone, there are many other systems that could very well work for you. Make the transition fun! There are many games, steps and guides to make the change easier on you.
